Preparing for an open house is all about making a great first impression. Here’s a checklist to help home sellers get their property ready:

1. Clean & Declutter
- Deep clean the entire home, including floors, windows, and bathrooms.
- Declutter countertops, shelves, and closets to make spaces look larger.
- Remove personal items like family photos to help buyers envision themselves in the home.
2. Boost Curb Appeal
- Mow the lawn, trim bushes, and add fresh mulch or flowers.
- Clean the front porch, repaint the door if needed, and add a welcoming doormat.
- Ensure exterior lights are working and replace burnt-out bulbs.
3. Stage the Home
- Arrange furniture to highlight the home’s best features and maximize space.
- Add fresh flowers, neutral décor, and soft lighting for a cozy feel.
- Set the dining table or add a stylish centerpiece to create an inviting atmosphere.
4. Take Care of Repairs
- Fix leaky faucets, squeaky doors, and any visible damage.
- Touch up paint, especially in high-traffic areas.
- Ensure all lights and appliances are in working order.
5. Make It Smell Fresh
- Avoid strong cooking or pet odors before the open house.
- Use light, natural scents like candles or air fresheners (nothing too overpowering).
- Open windows for fresh air if the weather allows.
6. Create a Welcoming Atmosphere
- Let in natural light by opening curtains and blinds.
- Play soft background music to create a pleasant ambiance.
- Set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature.
7. Secure Valuables & Pets
- Lock up valuables, important documents, and personal items.
- If possible, take pets out during the open house or keep them in a designated area.
